Your privacy is not just a legal obligation—it's fundamental to how we operate. We understand that location data is sensitive, and we take that responsibility seriously. ParkPing collects only the information necessary to provide parking detection, reminders, and analytics. We never sell your data, share it with third parties for advertising, or use it to track you across other apps. Our privacy practices are designed to give you full control and transparency over your personal information.

At ParkPing, we believe privacy and utility can coexist. While we need access to your location to detect when you've parked and send timely reminders, we implement strict controls to limit how that data is stored, processed, and retained. You can review, modify, or delete your data at any time, and we provide clear explanations of why we need each permission.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a ParkPing account, we collect your email address. Your name and phone number are optional and only collected if you choose to provide them. This information is used solely for authentication and account management purposes.

Precise Location Data

ParkPing uses your precise location to detect parking events, display your parked location, send parking reminders, and generate trip summaries. We collect:

  • Real-time GPS coordinates when the app is active
  • Background location data to detect parking while the app is closed (when permitted)
  • Location history linked to your account for parking session records

Important: Your location data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for cross-app tracking.

Motion & Activity Data

To accurately detect parking events, ParkPing requests access to motion and fitness data (iOS) or activity recognition data (Android). This data helps us distinguish between driving, stopping, and parking to provide accurate detection without unnecessary location checks.

Push and Local Notifications

We use both push notifications (sent from our servers) and local notifications (generated on your device) to alert you about:

  • Parking detection alerts when you arrive at a destination
  • Parking expiration reminders as your parking time runs out
  • Call-style reminders for urgent parking activity updates
  • Smart reminder notifications customized to your preferences

You can disable notifications at any time through your app settings or device settings.

Photos (Car Blocked Incidents)

If you report a "Car Blocked" incident, you may optionally capture a photo of the blocking vehicle's number plate. This image is processed securely and is not shared publicly or with third parties without your explicit consent.

Analytics & App Usage Data

We collect non-personally identifiable information about how you use the app, including:

  • Screens and features accessed
  • Feature usage patterns
  • App crash reports and error logs

This data is used only to improve app stability, performance, and user experience.

Advertising

ParkPing displays third-party advertisements through Google AdMob using non-personalized ads. We specifically do NOT:

  • Collect IDFA (iOS) or AAID (Android) identifiers for tracking
  • Enable cross-app or cross-site tracking
  • Build user behavior profiles for ad targeting
  • Share personal data with advertisers

Even without personalizing ads based on your data, you will continue to see relevant ads from AdMob based on contextual factors like the content of the page or app you're using.

Background Location Usage

ParkPing requests background location permission to detect parking events even when the app is closed. This is essential for the app's core functionality:

  • Automatic Parking Detection: The app monitors location in the background to detect when you've arrived at a destination and parked.
  • Parking Reminders: Background location helps trigger parking expiration reminders at the right time.
  • Trip Tracking: We collect location data to generate weekly driving statistics and trip summaries.

You can revoke background location permission at any time through your device settings. Without this permission, ParkPing will only detect parking when the app is actively open.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for:

  • Providing core app functionality (parking detection, reminders, trip tracking)
  • Account authentication and security
  • Sending parking alerts and smart reminders
  • Improving app performance and user experience
  • Complying with legal obligations
  • Preventing fraud and abuse

Legal Basis for Processing

We process your information based on the following legal grounds:

Your Consent: We process most personal data (especially location and motion data) based on your explicit consent. You can withdraw this consent at any time through app settings or device settings without penalty.

Contract Performance: We process account information and parking data necessary to fulfill our service agreement with you.

Legitimate Interest: We process analytics data and app usage information to improve service quality, prevent fraud, and maintain app security.

What ParkPing Does NOT Do

  • We do not sell your personal data to any third party
  • We do not share location data with advertisers or data brokers
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites
  • We do not use IDFA or AAID for cross-app tracking
  • We do not build behavioral profiles for targeted advertising
  • We do not monetize your personal information
  • We do not collect sensitive personal data such as biometrics, health information, financial data, or government IDs

Data Sharing & Third-Party Services

ParkPing uses the following third-party services:

Firebase (Google)

We use Firebase for user authentication, data storage (Firestore), and push notifications. Firebase has its own privacy policy and complies with GDPR. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Firebase does not use your data for advertising purposes.

Google AdMob

We display non-personalized ads through AdMob. AdMob does not receive personal information; it receives only anonymized event data for ad delivery and reporting.

Maps Services

The app may use Apple Maps or Google Maps to display your parking location. Map data collection is subject to Apple's or Google's privacy policies respectively.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to data brokers or marketing companies.

Your Privacy Rights & Controls

You have the following rights and controls:

Notifications: Enable or disable all notifications through app settings.

Location Services: Control background location access through device settings. You can revoke permission at any time.

Phone Number Visibility: Choose whether to share your phone number with the app.

Smart Reminder Preferences: Customize which reminders and alerts you receive.

Data Correction: Update or correct your account information within the app.

Data Retention & Account Deletion

How Long We Keep Your Data
  • Account data is retained while your account is active
  • Parking session history is retained for up to 2 years for reference
  • Analytics and crash data are retained for 6 months
  • Deleted photos are permanently removed within 7 days
Account Deletion Process

You can request account deletion at any time through app settings or by emailing support@parkping.tech. When you request deletion:

  • Your account is immediately marked as inactive
  • All personal data is permanently deleted after 30 days
  • If you log back in during this grace period, your account is automatically restored
  • After 30 days, deletion is permanent and irreversible

Data Security

ParkPing implements industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • Firebase Authentication with secure password requirements
  • Firestore Row-Level Security (RLS) rules restricting data access
  • Encrypted data transmission via HTTPS/TLS
  • Encrypted data storage at rest
  • Restricted admin access with role-based controls
  • Regular security audits and updates

While we employ strong security measures, no system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact support@parkping.tech immediately.

Children's Privacy

ParkPing is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will immediately delete such information and terminate the child's account. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact support@parkping.tech.

Privacy & Compliance

ParkPing complies with:

  • Apple App Store Privacy Requirements: All app privacy information is accurately declared in App Store privacy labels
  • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation): We respect user rights to access, correct, and delete their data
  • UAE Data Protection: We comply with UAE regulatory requirements for user data
  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA): Users have the right to request their data

Changes to This Privacy Policy

ParkPing may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, if required, by sending you a notification through the app or to your registered email address.
