Why Checking Your Fines Regularly Matters

Traffic fines in Dubai accumulate quickly and can affect your ability to renew your vehicle registration if left unpaid. The RTA will not process a vehicle registration renewal if there are outstanding fines against the vehicle. In some cases, accumulated fines can also lead to your vehicle being impounded. Checking your fines regularly ensures you stay compliant and avoid unnecessary complications.

Many drivers are unaware that they have outstanding fines until they attempt to renew their registration or are stopped at a checkpoint. Making it a habit to check your fines monthly can save you significant time, money, and stress.

How to Check Fines via Dubai Police App

The Dubai Police app is the fastest and most convenient way to check your traffic fines. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, register with your Emirates ID or passport number, and navigate to the Traffic Fines section. You can check fines by vehicle plate number or by your driving license number. The app also allows you to pay fines directly using a credit or debit card.

The Dubai Police app also shows the location where each fine was issued, the violation type, the fine amount, and any applicable discounts. Dubai Police regularly offer discount periods where fines can be paid at 50% of the original amount — the app will notify you of active discount campaigns.

Checking Fines via the RTA Website

The RTA website at rta.ae allows you to check parking-related fines and vehicle-related violations. Navigate to the Traffic and Parking section, enter your plate number and emirate, and the system will display any outstanding fines linked to that vehicle. Payment can be made directly through the website using a credit card.

The RTA also offers a dedicated parking fine inquiry service where you can specifically check for unpaid parking violations. This is separate from the Dubai Police system which covers moving traffic violations such as speeding, running red lights, and illegal turns.

Common Traffic Fines in Dubai and Their Amounts

Speeding fines in Dubai range from AED 300 for exceeding the speed limit by 1-20 km/h up to AED 3,000 for exceeding by more than 60 km/h. Running a red light carries a fine of AED 1,000 plus 12 black points. Using a mobile phone while driving is AED 800. Unpaid parking fines start at AED 150.

Black points are added to your license for serious violations and accumulating 24 black points within a year results in license suspension. Always check both your fine amount and any associated black points when reviewing violations.
